Cape Coral bridge will be closed for 4th of July. What to know ahead of holiday traffic
For those heading into Cape Coral for any Fourth of July celebrations, expect traffic to be worse than usual.
The Cape Coral Bridge and connecting streets will be closed for the Freedom 5K race and the Red, White, & Boom celebration starting early Tuesday until early Wednesday.
Here's what residents and event attendees should know before Tuesday morning:
Where will the road closures be?
These roadways include the Cape Coral Bridge, Cape Coral Parkway from SE 15th Avenue/Cape Coral Street to the bridge, and Del Prado Boulevard from SE 47th Terrace to Miramar Street/Waikiki Avenue.
.Residents should plan accordingly and arrange for an alternate route during this time. Vehicles attempting to turn onto Cape Coral Parkway from Del Prado Boulevard will be directed to make a U-turn.
When will the closures start?
Road closures start at 3 a.m. on Tuesday, July 4, and end at 3 a.m. Wednesday, July 5.
What is Red, White & Boom?
One of the largest single-day events in Southwest Florida, the City of Cape Coral's Red, White, and Boom is a free event for attendees that will boost a fireworks display, national entertainment, and fun for the whole family.
The event takes place on Cape Coral Parkway at the foot of Cape Coral Bridge. To ensure everyone’s safety, no pets, fireworks, or outside alcohol will be allowed.
Freedom 5K
The Chamber of Commerce of Cape Coral presents The Priority Business Solutions Freedom 5K & Servpro Kid's Fun Run. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Brotherhood of Heroes Resource Center and Museum and the Special Operations Communicators Association.
The race will start at 7 a.m. at the foot of the Cape Coral Bridge.
What alternative routes should I use?
Motorists are encouraged by officials to use the Veteran’s Memorial, U.S. 41, or Business 41 bridges as alternate routes.
