Cape Coral city-owned charter school ranked as one of the best Florida middle schools

Oasis Middle School, one of Cape Coral's city-owned charter schools, was ranked as one of the best Florida middle schools.

"I am thrilled to announce that Oasis Middle School has earned the prestigious designation as one of the best middle schools in Florida,” said Principal Donnie Hopper, in a press release. “This achievement is a testament to the dedication of our students, staff, and families who consistently strive for excellence in education."

Where does it rank?

According to U.S. News Education, the school ranked 189 out of 3,076 middle schools in Florida, landing in the top 10%.

The school is ranked #81 in Florida charter middle schools.

Additionally, it ranked #2 in Lee County School District middle schools, just behind The Sanibel School, which is ranked first.

Cape Coral city-owned charter schools explained

The Oasis charter schools are a municipal charter school system that was created in 2005.

It is sponsored by the School District of Lee County in partnership with the city of Cape Coral and includes two elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school.

Oasis Middle School's characteristics

According to U.S. News Education, the student population of the middle school is 830.

The student population is comprised of 51% female students and 49% male students.

The student-teacher ratio is 19 to 1, which is the same as that of the district. Minority student enrollment is 35% for the school.

There are 44 full-time teachers and one full-time school counselor.

U.S. News rankings explained

U.S. News ranks schools based on their performance on state-required tests, graduation, and how well they prepare their students for high school.

The rankings use the same methodology for all included grade levels, and for each state, schools were assessed on their shares of students who were proficient or above proficient in their mathematics and reading/language arts state assessments.
