Cape Coral man fatally injured after motorcycle collides with truck on Pine Island Road

A 26-year-old Cape Coral man suffered fatal injuries Monday morning in a crash on Pine Island Road.

The Florida Highway Patrol reported that the man was driving a motorcycle east in the right lane on Pine Island, approaching a green traffic light at the intersection with Woodward Avenue.

The Patrol report said a commercial truck westbound on Pine Island was in the left turn lane and had a flashing yellow left turn traffic signal at the intersection. The truck made a left turn onto Woodward and the front of the motorcycle collided with the truck's right rear.

The motorcyclist was critically injured and taken to Gulf Coast Hospital Medical Center in Fort Myers where he died.

The crash remains under investigation.

The death is at least the 61st fatality on Lee County roads in 2022 according to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.
