Cape Coral man found guilty in 2020 hit-and-run fatal crash will be sentenced in February

A 20-year-old Cape Coral man found guilty in a hit-and-run crash that killed Austin Paul Manke, 21, will be sentenced February 21.

Clody Enrique Gonzalez Vera, 21, was found guilty Jan. 7 by a Lee County jury following a multiple-day trial before Judge Bruce E. Kyle.

The crash happened on the Cape Coral Bridge at 12:30 a.m. Feb. 9, 2020, and the driver who hit Manke's scooter fled the scene.

According to friends and the initial Florida Highway Patrol report, Manke was riding his 2018 YNGF Scooter and returning home from Duffy's Sports Grill in south Fort Myers where he worked as a server.

FHP investigators tracked the suspected hit-and-run vehicle to an address in Cape Coral where they found a black 2015 Nissan Altima and arrested Gonzalez Vera on charges of leaving the scene of a crash involving death.

Gonzalez Vera will remain in Lee County Jail until his sentencing.
