The city of Cape Coral is working on building a new fire station, Fire Station 13, to help reduce response times and better service the residents of northeast Cape Coral. It will be located at 2025 NE 6th St. A groundbreaking ceremony was held on March 23.

Here's what we know.

What was the reason for the new station?

The new station is necessary to match the growth of the northeast part of the city and the subsequent increasing demands for service.

Fire Chief Ryan Lamb said in a press release that the new station would help reduce the response time in the growing area.

“A fire doubles in size every 30 seconds, or imagine having difficulty breathing. In an emergency, every second counts,” Lamb said.

Fire Station 13 will incorporate areas currently covered by Fire Stations 2 and 5, the city’s two busiest stations.

“The addition of Fire Station 13 will greatly reduce response times to residents in this quickly growing community, Lamb added.

What kind of fire station is coming?

  • The station will be 9,161 square feet.

  • The construction site is 1.25 acres.

  • The stations will have a four-person fire engine that provides fire suppression and advanced life support services.

How much did it cost?

The total for building costs, design and permits was $7.4 million.

On March 15, the city of Cape Coral adopted and approved a loan agreement with TD Bank for $8 million that will go to funding and equipping Firestation 13.

Fire station 13's construction is part of the fire department's master plan and the city's capital improvement plan, which got its funds from the fiscal year 2022 budget.

When will it be completed?

The estimated completion date for the station is December.
