Cape Coral's 3rd annual Holiday Tree and Menorah Lighting Celebration

Cape Coral hosted its 3rd Annual Holiday Tree and Menorah Lighting ceremony on the lawn at City Hall on Thursday.

The Christmas tree, installed by city employees, was 50 feet tall and included colorful ornaments.

The family-friendly event included a musical performance by student choirs from both Oasis Elementary North and South. A visit from Santa Claus also gave visitors an opportunity to have pictures taken with him.

Hanukkah runs from sundown on Thursday, Dec. 7, to sundown Dec. 15. The celebration widely known as the Festival of Lights, is also the Festival of Rededication in Jewish culture. It honors the victory of the Macabee soldiers over the Syrian-Greek army, along with the rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem in 164 B.C.E., according to Britannica.

Christmas, on Dec. 25, is a holiday celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, who Christians believe is the son of God, more than 2,000 years ago.
