Cape & Islands high school girls basketball awards announced. Who made the all-star team?
For the Cape and Islands, the high school girls basketball season has come to an end.
During the winter, three league champs, four Most Valuable Players and 29 girls were named all-stars.
Sandwich (Atlantic Division), Monomoy (Maritime Division) and St. John Paul II (Lighthouse) all won league titles.
Under first-year coach Michael Barrett, the Blue Knights started 1-3 before finishing 16-5 and reaching the Division 3 Sweet 16.
Monomoy was led by its three senior all-stars (Melissa Velasquez, Helen DiGiovanni, Lucy Mawn) to the Maritime crown.
St. John Paul II won 16 games despite being one of the youngest teams in the league with three freshmen all-stars (Michaela Enright, Devin Crofford, Marlo Jumper). Maggie Crofford, a senior all-star, was another leader for the Lions.
