CAPE LEAGUE ROUNDUP: Bourne Braves blast way past Cotuit Kettleers

The Braves (9-8-6) scored a season-high 12 runs to hand the division-leading Cotuit Kettleers (14-5-4) a 12-7 loss.

Maryland's Matt Shaw led the way with a two-home run and six-RBI night. The junior finished four-for-five out of the No. 2 spot in the order.

The Braves' offense put up crooked numbers in the third, sixth, and seventh innings to pick up a critical win over the division foes. East Carolina's Joshua Moylan also had a big night at the plate for Bourne, hitting a three-run home run.

The Kettleers had some offensive standouts as well. Stanford's Tommy Troy also had two home runs and six RBIs, accounting for almost all of Cotuit's runs in the game.

In the end, that production wasn't enough as the Braves bullpen put up zeroes in the sixth, seventh, and eighth, to put the game to bed.

The Commodores (9-12-6) used strong pitching and a balanced offensive night to hand the Firebirds (9-11-3) their second straight loss. Arizona junior Drew Sommers, Florida's Phillip Abner, and Texas A&M senior Will Johnston combined to keep Orleans off the scoreboard through eight innings.

Florida's Colby Halter and Alabama's Andrew Pinckney each had a home run and two RBIs to pace the Falmouth offense.

Harwich Mariners 5, Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox 3

The Mariners (7-12-4) got back in the win column by beating the division-leading Red Sox (12-8-3) at home.

Kansas State junior Nico Williams drove the Harwich offense tonight. The shortstop had two hits, including a home run, two RBIs, and scored twice.

The Red Sox mounted a small rally in the seventh, but couldn't complete it.

Brewster Whitecaps 9, Chatham Anglers 6

The Whitecaps (11-8-4) closed the gap on the first-place Red Sox to a single point, after beating the Anglers (5-14-1) at Veteran's Field. Rutgers senior Brian Fitzpatrick had his fourth scoreless start (in four outings), blanking Chatham over five innings. The senior has now thrown 19 innings without allowing a run, with a 19:2 strikeout to walk ratio.

TCU's Kurtis Byrne led the way for the Whitecaps offense, registering three hits, four RBI, and scoring two runs.
