Capitals sign LW Leipsic

Left winger Brendan Leipsic, who has played just three NHL seasons, is headed to a sixth franchise.

The free agent signed a one-year, $700,000 deal with the Washington Capitals on Monday. Last week, the Los Angeles Kings declined to give Leipsic a qualify offer, making him an unrestricted free agent.

Leipsic, 25, was selected by the Predators in third round of the 2012 draft but never played a game for Nashville. He was traded to Toronto in 2015, and he appeared in six games for the Maple Leafs in 2015-16 before all of the next season in the AHL.

After getting selected by Vegas in the expansion draft, Leipsic split the 2017-18 season between the Golden Knights and the Vancouver Canucks. He subsequently split the 2018-19 season between the Canucks and the Kings.

Last season, Leipsic had a combined seven goals and 16 assists in 62 games. Overall, he has 13 goals and 35 assists in 126 NHL games.
