Capitol City Classic returns to Salem

The seventh edition of the Capitol City Classic will be bigger and better when it returns to Salem Friday through Dec. 21.

The premier high school basketball tournament in the Mid-Willamette Valley tips off with the Oregon Army National Guard Boys Bracket, which will be held at Willamette University.

The 16-team bracket will be played over the course of six days with the championship game slated for Dec. 21 at 8:30 p.m.

Seven of the teams competing in the tournament are based in Marion County, including defending CCC champion West Salem.

The Titans and head coach Travis Myers were the first Oregon-based team in CCC history to win the tournament last year.

Also competing in the boys bracket will be teams from Texas, California as well as the Portland-area and will feature numerous highly ranked players in the country.

The Capitol Toyota Girls Bracket kicks off its second annual CCC tournament Dec. 19-21 at Corban University.

This year, the girls tournament will feature an expanded bracket, playing over the course of three days, up from one game a day, with the championship game scheduled for Dec. 21 at 8:30 p.m.

West Salem, South Salem, Silverton and Central are among the eight teams competing.

The tournament schedule will also include a slam dunk contest and a 3-point contest as well as other challenges from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
