Caprock Lady Longhorns victorious at state duals, Longhorns finish second

The Class 5A wrestling State Duals took place over the past weekend with plenty of representation from the Texas Panhandle.

Caprock took home the team victory in the girls bracket while Randall placed third and Amarillo High finished in seventh.

On the boys side of the duals, Caprock checked in at second-place behind Lovejoy after being defeated 51-20 in the first-place match.

Randall followed right behind the Longhorns in third and Amarillo High rounded out the top five in fifth.

Following a 10th-place finish by the boys and 12th-place finish by the girls at state last season, Caprock's wrestlers have continued to improve and will look to take down Randall's two defending state champion squads next month in district and regional competition.

The Lady Longhorns defeated Midlothian Heritage (60-0), Northwest (32-20), Randall (30-21), and El Paso Chapin (31-30) to clinch the meet victory.

Caprock's boys squad took care of business and came out on top over Dallas Hillcrest (54-22), Lubbock High (54-27), and Randall (36-34).

However, they fell to a stacked Lovejoy squad in the championship round.
