Last week, Randall High School had two players sign their National Letters of Intent to play baseball at Seward County Community College in Liberal, Kansas. They didn't know then that they'd have another member of the Texas Panhandle community joining them.

Caprock's Aldo Ostos, a senior, signed with SCCC on Wednesday afternoon at Caprock High School. He plans to pitch in college.

While he'll be joining Mason Gilbert and Kaden Juarez in Kansas, Ostos is hoping to represent his own corner of Amarillo in college.

"I just want to set a good example for the boys on the east side," Ostos said. "Everyone sleeps on them so I have to back them up and show them that I can do what any other kid in Amarillo can do."

He'll be doing it in a place that let him know he's wanted.

"I just liked the coaches," Ostos said. "It felt like home as soon as I got there and they showed the most interest."

The Longhorns went 9-15 last season, but return a solid stable of seniors this year. Head coach Trevor Cordova believes this years team can compete with everyone else in their district and emphasized that Ostos will be a big part of making that happen.

"(SCCC) is getting an amazing guy," Cordova said. "He's a team guy. You can ask anyone and they'll vouch for Aldo that he's all about the team and makes us go. We have this thing in our program about making it all about us and Aldo embodies that. He takes care of his business in the classroom and is an outstanding family man with his brothers...He's a positive and productive young man."

Cordova said Ostos will also play outfield for the Longhorns this season in addition to his duties on the mound.

Ostos will have two years at SCCC before deciding what to do next. For now, his mind is set on just one thing: This upcoming season.

"I just want to help my team make the playoffs," Ostos said. "I just want to do my best."
