Capshaw seeks Anderson County Commission office

Oak Ridger Ebony Capshaw is seeking election to the office of Anderson County commissioner in District 6, which includes Oak Ridge City Hall (Senior Center), Robertsville, and West Hills precincts. Capshaw was one of six citizens nominated to fill the office following the resignation of Catherine Denenberg.

Capshaw is an Oak Ridge native and resident with in-depth knowledge of local issues, concerns, history, and unique characteristics of Anderson County, according to a news release announcing her candidacy. She previously served as 5th Senatorial District executive committeewoman and ran in 2018 for Anderson County trustee.

County residents encouraged her to run for county trustee in 2018 and now for county commissioner, the release said.

"I am thankful to have a servant’s heart. I volunteer to better serve my community. I love to engage with and speak up for residents, especially when issues concern them. At times, they feel they have no voice. That's why I'm running for office to be the voice for the people. With the knowledge gained in my professional career and personal life, I am confident that I have the skills to serve the citizens of Anderson County," she stated.

She has over 23 years of combined work experience in pharmacy, quality auditing, customer service, and higher education bringing valuable qualities to public service. She gained the nickname, "Eagle-Eye Capshaw" from her former director for her keen eye to details. She has strong analytical and listening skills essential for assessing policies, budgets, and programs for efficiency and effectiveness. Identifying and implementing process improvements and problem-solving are crucial to long-term community well-being.

Capshaw serves as a member of Roane State Community College pharmacy technician program advisory board, East Tennessee Medical Reserve Corps, AME Zion Women's Home & Overseas Missionary Society and Christian Education Department.

Capshaw has previously served as a Child Advocacy Center of Anderson County board member, Altrusa International of Oak Ridge member, TN Clinch Valley Boys and Girls Club tutor, Scarboro Neighborhood Watch Group member, TN NAACP State Conference Executive Committee member, and Oak Ridge/Anderson County Branch NAACP first vice pesident and membership chair.
