Captains batter Fort Wayne, win ninth straight game

Aug. 14—Nothing like a sweet Sunday to complete a sweet sweep.

The Captains slugged four home runs as part of a 17-hit barrage to top visiting Fort Wayne, 13-7, at Classic Park for their ninth straight victory. The win pushes Lake County's record to 61-45, while Fort Wayne Falls to 44-64.

It was a 5-0 Captains lead before the TinCaps got on the board. That's because Angel Martinez and Korey Holland belted home runs in the second inning to help stake the Captains to the early lead.

Petey Halpin homered in the fifth, Aaron Bracho homered in the seventh and Johnathon Rodriguez dialed long distance in the seventh.

Fort Wayne got three home runs of its own and hammered 11 hits, but the Tin Caps couldn't keep up with the Captains.

Every player in the Captains' lineup had at least one hit. Martinez and Gabriel Rodriguez had three of them and Halpin had four.

Rodney Boone gave up five earned runs in five innings, but still got the win for the Captans. He improved to 3-3 this season, walking one and striking out six.

The Captains are off on Aug. 15, then will take their winning streak on the road for a six-game series against West Michigan. First pitch on Aug. 16 is at 6:35 p.m.
