Captains beat Loons on Frias' walk-off single

May 14—Dayan Frias hit a walk-off single to right field to cap a two-run rally and give the Captains a 3-2 victory over Great Lakes on May 14 at Classic Auto Group Park.

The Captains trailed, 2-1, entering the bottom of the ninth. They loaded the bases with a walk, a single and another walk. Then Yordys Vales was hit by a pitch to bring in the game-tying run, and Frias followed with the game-winning RBI.

Joe Donovan gave the Captains a 1-0 lead in the second inning with an RBI on a fielder's choice. Great Lakes scored once each in the fifth and sixth innings to take the lead before Lake County's last at-bat heroics.

Donovan also doubled, which was the Captains' only extra-base hit.

Captains starter Ryan Webb gave up both runs in five innings. He struck out six and walked five. Sergio Morillo, Lenny Torres Jr. and Tyler Thornton each had scoreless outings in relief.

Lake County went 2-4 against the first-place Loons this week. The Captains are 17-15 and in third place in the Midwest League East.

After two weeks at home, the Captains hit the road for two weeks, beginning with a series at Lansing.
