Captains' hitting, pitching dominate Dragons, 7-0

Jun. 23—The Captains hit three home runs, and Lake County pitchers struck out 14 in a 7-0 victory over host Dayton on June 23.

Left fielder Korey Holland hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning, right fielder Johnathan Rodriguez followed with a solo shot in the sixth, and DH Connor Kokx hit a two-run homer in the eighth. Pete Halpin drove in the other run with a sacrifice fly in the seventh.

The Captains have hit 26 home runs in 21 games in June. Rodriguez has three home runs in the series.

J-ROD DOES IT AGAIN!

Johnathan Rodriguez just hit his fifth home run of the season, a solo shot, to extend Lake County's lead to 4-0 in the top of the sixth inning.

This is his third home run of the series!

Starter Mason Hickman earned his second win. He went five innings, fanned eight, walked two and lowered his ERA to 4.50. Davis Sharpe and Jordan Jones each pitched two innings in relief.

Lake County (35-31) has won three of the first four games of the series. On June 24 at Dayton, lefty Rodney Boone (0-1, 6.23) is scheduled to make his third start since being called up from Low-A Lynchburg.
