Captains one-hit Great Lakes, 2-0

Aug. 31—Rodney Boone and two relievers combined on a one-hitter, and the Captains won for the 20th time in August, 2-0 over host Great Lakes, on Aug. 31.

Boone allowed a one-out single in the first inning. In six innings, he struck out eight and walked one in improving to 5-4. Jaime Arias pitched the next two innings, striking out four, and Trey Benton pitched the ninth for his eighth save.

Alexfri Planez singled in a run in the first inning, giving him 59 RBI for the season. Aaron Bracho drove in the other run with a triple in the sixth.

The Captains went 20-6 in August, their most victories in August since 2014.

Lake County (71-49, 36-18 second half) leads second-place West Michigan by three games in the East Division second-half standings.

The Captains have won the first two games of the series with Great Lakes. The series continues Sept. 1 at Dow Diamond.
