Captains win third in a row, 5-4 over Dragons

Apr. 29—The Captains hit two home runs in the eighth inning, then added a needed insurance run in the ninth to beat host Dayton, 5-4, on April 29.

Lake County has won three in a row, with all three victories by one run.

Joe Lampe and Will Bartlett each hit a solo home run in the eighth inning to give Lake County a 4-3 lead. Milan Tolentino hit a run-scoring single in the ninth for a two-run cushion.

Captains reliever Lenny Torres Jr. gave up an RBI double with one out in the ninth. But Torres Jr. got a strikeout and a lineout to end it.

Lake County scored two runs in the third inning. Cesar Idrogo scored on a wild pitch with two outs, and Lampe followed with an RBI single.

Starter Tommy Mace went five innings. He gave up two runs and struck out six.

The series it set to conclude on April 30 at Dayton.
