Car crash on Interstate 70 just over Frederick County line leaves one dead

Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal crash on westbound Interstate 70 near the Myersville rest stop that happened around 8:30 p.m. Monday.

Tracy Lynne Trite, 40, of Smithsburg, was killed in the crash, a state police spokesman said Tuesday morning.

Trite was driving a Chevrolet Cruze that struck the rear of a trailer being hauled by an International Truck Tractor, according to a news release from the state police Frederick barrack sent Monday night. Trite was pronounced dead about 8:45 p.m.

The driver of the International was not injured, the spokesman said.

There were no passengers in either vehicle, police said.

State police's Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division, as well as troopers for crash reconstruction, responded.

At least one lane of Interstate 70 was closed for at least three hours due to the crash.
