EMPORIA (KSNT) – The Emporia Police Department (EPD) provided a narrative around the incident that saw a car crash into an Emporia State University (ESU) recreation building.
Ray Mattas with the EPD said at 5:54 p.m., on Sunday, Feb. 11, officers attempted to stop a 2012 Acura at 18th and Rural Street. The driver fled from police driving east on 18th. The officer didn’t pursue the car.
The driver drove onto the ESU campus at a high rate of speed, according to the EPD. The car left the road, went airborne and crashed into the ESU recreation building. The driver was trapped in the car and needed to be saved by the Emporia Fire Department.
The driver was taken to an area hospital for treatment. The driver’s identification won’t be released due to the nature of the incident, according to the EPD.
