Springfield man opens front door, finds car crashed into his garage

A man was not prepared for what he saw outside his front door in Springfield Monday.

Derek Engler said he’s used to feeling what he describes as “reverberation” at his house along North Limestone Street because of the semi-trailer traffic that goes by all the time.

But he said what he felt Monday morning wasn’t from a semi.

“I didn’t expect all this on Monday morning,” Engler said.

He thought he felt a rattle from a big rig going by his home until he opened his front door.

“I peaked my head out and was like, ‘whoa!’,” he said.

A driver had crashed into Engler’s garage.

“I look over and I see a dad and his little girl and a blue car they were driving,” he said.

News Center 7 reached out to Springfield police to ask what led up to the crash, but as of the time of reporting have not heard back.

Engler said he is thankful no one was hurt.

Before first responders arrived he said he and his daughter worked to comfort the two involved in the crash.

“My daughter saw what was going on and so she gave me her Minnie Mouse doll and I went out and brought some drinks for the father and daughter and that Minnie Mouse to comfort (the girl). And yeah, everyone’s alright,” he said.
