Car crashes into Highlands sneaker shop in Louisville early Saturday morning

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A car crashed into a sneaker shop in the Highlands early Saturday morning.

Social media posts show a dark car, surrounded by shattered glass and broken boards of wood, partially wedged inside the Free Hype Shop at 2218 Bardstown Road.

Subsequent posts inside the store show shelving units broken on the floor, with a few people standing amid debris to survey the damage.

No one was inside the store or injured when a driver hit, the shop wrote in an Instagram story early Saturday.

"A lot of shoes got damaged but we are all fine," the post said.

The store will be closed "until further notice" to clean up.

A man lost control of his vehicle "for some unknown reason" and crashed into the building around 2:45 a.m. Saturday morning, Louisville Metro Police Department Spokesman Dwight Mitchell said.

The driver was taken to University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Mitchell said. A police investigation is ongoing.
