Car crashes into New River, condition of those inside still unknown

The condition of a driver and passenger involved in a crash on Saturday morning is currently unknown.

The Jacksonville Police Department, according to a release on Facebook, is investigating a crash that took place Saturday at around 6:38 a.m. when a white 2010 Chevrolet Impala crashed into the New River on South Marine Boulevard, submerging it.

According to the release, the vehicle had two occupants. The passenger was able to exit the vehicle on their own, but emergency personnel had to extract the driver from the vehicle.

The driver was transported to the Naval Medical Center aboard Camp Lejeune and then transported to Chapel Hill Medical Center, where their condition is currently unknown. No additional information has been released about the passenger.

The release said the crash was not related to the winter weather.

The crash is still under investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact Cpl. Hollis of the Traffic Division at 910-455-1472.
