Car crashes into tree in Montgomery County, driver in hospital with serious injuries

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — Officials said that one person had life-threatening injuries after a car crashed into a tree in Montgomery County on Monday afternoon.

Pete Piringer, the public information officer for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service, first said on the platform X at 1:30 p.m. that crews responded to a crash on Brighton Dam Road off of New Hampshire Avenue.

The crash happened near the parking lot entrance to the WSSC Brighton Dam visitors area.

Initial reports said that there was a fire, but Piringer said in an update shortly afterward that there was no fire.

Piringer said that the driver of the car was trapped and needed to be extricated. That person was taken to the trauma center with life-threatening injuries.

As of 2:45 p.m., Brighton Dam Road was closed near the Howard County line for the response, including tree and debris removal.
