Car kills Wadsworth man, 61, walking in Medina County

A Wadsworth resident died Friday after he was hit by a vehicle while walking northbound on River Styx Road on or near the edge of the roadway in Guilford Township.

Troopers from The Medina Highway Patrol Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol identified the man as 61-year-old Alan E. Herrington.

When troopers responded to the scene at about 8:15 p.m., they learned Herrington had been pronounced dead by Seville-Guilford Township EMS personnel. Troopers discovered a 2011 Kia Optima sedan with heavy front-end damage that struck Herrington. The Kia was traveling northbound on River Styx Road when it hit him, the highway patrol said.

Herrington's body was transported by the Medina County Coroner's Office.

The patrol identified the driver of the Kia as Sierra B. Cox, 24, of Cleveland. Cox and her passenger were treated and released by EMS at the scene with no injuries.

The Medina County Sheriff’s Department and Seville Police Department were also at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
