Car land in the tow lot? Louisville launches amnesty period to help you get it back

The city of Louisville will host its third Amnesty Period to reduce the number of cars at the Louisville Metro Police Tow Lot, the department said.

The amnesty period, which will be between Sunday and June 3, will waive towing and storage fees for the vehicles claimed during this time.

“LMPD is committed to improving the safety of our streets and community and this is one step in that direction. The Amnesty Period will allow people to retrieve their vehicles and alleviate overcrowding in the city’s tow lot,” Major Emily McKinley said.

The amnesty ordinance lets the director of Metro Public Works declare the amnesty period for a maximum of 30 days. During this time, towing and storage fees are waived.
