German car rental company Sixt has announced plans to buy as many as 250,000 vehicles from carmaker Stellantis over the next three years for the company's rental fleets in Europe and North America.

"The agreement covers a total value of several billion euros," Sixt announced on Tuesday.

"The first deliveries on a significant scale" are to take place by the end of March, the company said.

Konstantin Sixt, the company's co-chief executive, said the agreement with Stellantis would enable the company to accelerate its growth strategy.

The Stellantis Group includes Citroën, Peugeot, Fiat, Maserati, Chrysler and Opel, among other automotive brands. The company is headquartered in the Netherlands but has significant operations in France, Italy and the United States, among other countries.

The automotive giant will supply Sixt with a range of cars, SUVs and vans as part of the deal.

Stellantis chief executive Carlos Tavares said that the rental cars would allow customers to experience the latest models from the automaker.
