Explore Oak Ridge will fire up its engines for the 3rd annual Cars for Canines event on Aug. 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Melton Lake Park in Oak Ridge. The waterfront event showcases cars, live music and local food and vendors to benefit the Oak Ridge Animal Shelter and Anderson County Humane Society.

“We are eager to welcome thousands of guests back this year to Cars for Canines! It’s heartwarming to see community members and visitors come together in support of animals in need,” said Hannah Fatheree, Event Manager for Explore Oak Ridge. “The last two years have been undeniable successes. We hope to continue this new tradition with triple the donations and adoptions!”

Attendees will find a variety of fun activities on-site, including a car show presented by Summer Knight Cruisers, live music, door prizes and plenty of pet friendly activities. In the spirit of raising money for pets, demonstrations by Dock Dogs and Sit Means Sit will also occur throughout the event, according to a news release.

Those looking for a treat can snag something from Crafter’s Brew, Forks In the Road, Top Knotch Tacos and Kona Ice. All proceeds will directly benefit Oak Ridge Animal Shelter and Anderson County Humane Society.

Our four-legged friends will also find treats and more with Veterinarian Matt Jinks. Dr. Jinks will be offering reduced-cost microchipping and rabies vaccinations while supplies last. Rabies shots will be set at $10, and microchips will be $20, according to a release.

The event is free and open to the public. If you would like to participate in the car show, the entry fee is $20 per car. Cars for Canines welcomes classic cars, hot rods and motorcycles. All who enter will be put in the running for a door prize and the top 25 vehicles will receive awards.

The event is free and open to the public. All pet owners will be expected to keep their dogs on leashes and cats in a carrier at all times while on the premises.
