Car show, picnic and parking lot party on tap this weekend in Springfield

This first weekend of August is loaded with family-friendly events to attend. Looking for something to do?

Here are five local happenings:

Powerlight Abe Lincoln Car Show

Cruise through the city with a movie star on Friday at the 9th annual Powerlight Abe Lincoln Car Show.

Cars will line up at 5 p.m. the Horace Mann parking lot, 1 Horace Mann Plaza, and head to Trade Winds at Knight's Action Park at 6 p.m.

Malcolm Danare, also known as “Moochie “ from the 1983 thriller film "Christine," will be present with a replica of the "Christine" car on display. A meet and greet will take place upon arrival to Knight's Action Park followed by a performance from the Johnny Cash tribute band Folsom Prison Five.

Project Southtown Clean Up

Meet new people while transforming the city at the second annual Project Southtown Clean Up on Saturday.

The event will take place at 10 a.m. at Everything Intricate, 1107 South Grand Ave. E.

Summer Picnic

Enjoy food, fellowship, and fun at the Fresh Visions Community Church annual Summer Picnic on Saturday.

The event will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. at Fresh Visions Community Church, 1551 J. David Jones Parkway.

Field sports, a cake walk, face painting and a bouncehouse will be present and free food will be available. The event is open to all ages.

Family Day at the Zoo

Spend time with family and animals while supporting an effort at the 26th annual Family Day at the Zoo on Saturday.

The event will take place at Henson Robinson Zoo with free admission from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m.

The West Central IL Breastfeeding Task Force is hosting the event in celebration of World Breastfeeding Week. Entertainment, face painting and snacks will be available. For more information visit www.facebook.com/WCILTF/

Luminary lot party

Mix, mingle and shop with local vendors Sunday at the Luminary parking lot party.

The event will take place at Luminary: Kitchens and Provisions, 3121 Hedley Road, from 4 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.

Food and drinks will be available for purchase with choices from a variety of local food and retail vendors. New menu items from Luminary also will debut during the event. Live music will be performed by Austin Sprouse.
