Car slides on ice and ends up in the Passaic River in Totowa

A vehicle traveling on Riverview Drive in Totowa on Tuesday morning slid on ice, causing it to cross the roadway and hit trees before veering down an embankment and coming to a stop in the Passaic River.

A mother and her teenage son were in the car. Members of the Totowa Fire Department and the Totowa Police Department assisted them out of the vehicle through the sunroof, police reported.

There were no injuries reported, according to Totowa Fire Chief Rich Schopperth, who said the mother and son were both evaluated and released by EMS at the scene.

The mother and her son escaped from the vehicle by exiting from the sunroof. According to Totowa Fire Chief Rich Schopperth, the mother and son were evaluated and released by EMS at the scene.

The vehicle has since been removed from the water.
