Car speeding through Fayetteville school zone found to contain weapons and drugs; man sought

A Fayetteville man is being sought by police after weapons and drugs were found a vehicle spotted speeding through a school zone on Wednesday. the Fayetteville Police Department said in a release.

Warrants have been issued for Kelvin Le’Bruce Grate, 19, charging him with felony fleeing to elude arrest and felony maintaining a vehicle for the storage and sale of illegal substances, a news release from the Fayetteville Police Department said.

According to police, at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, officers spotted a vehicle speeding 51 mph in a 25 mph school zone on Ireland Drive. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, it fled, and struck another vehicle on Raeford Road before being abandoned at a nearby apartment complex, Officer Alexandria Pecia said.

A search of the abandoned vehicle, police said, led to the seizure of two handguns, 337 grams of marijuana and 226 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, the release said.

Police said that Grate was identified as the driver of the vehicle.
