Car wash to open next to Grafton Street fish market

WORCESTER – Grafton Street landmark A.P. Fish Market will soon share pavement with a squeaky-new neighbor, as a new owner is looking to build a car wash with a 120-foot tunnel.

The new owners of 1059 Grafton St., where A.P. Fish Market is found, will build a 4,000-square-foot car wash next to the market. The market will not be affected.

Slated to be around 4,000 square feet, the car wash will be part of redevelopment plans by the land's new owners who took over the 4.5-acre property Friday from the multidecade owners of 1059 Grafton St. Pizzarella family, according to brokers NAI Glickman Kovago & Jacobs.

Records show that the new owners, guised as 1059 Grafton Street LLC on the Worcester Registry of Deeds, closed on the land for $775,000.

The Pizzarella family will continue to own the fish market, as it has since 1961. The new development will not affect the fish market's building and its day-to-day business, according to manager Julio Diaz.
