Carbondale man charged with drug, weapon offenses

May 6—A city man was charged with drug and weapon offenses as a result of a two-week investigation by the Lackawanna County Drug Task Force into the sale of heroin and fentanyl, authorities said Saturday.

Derrick Lenard Wright, 40, was arrested Wednesday by task force members from the Carbondale, Mayfield and Scott and Greenfield townships police departments, according to a criminal complaint and affidavit.

Wright is charged with two counts each of possession with intent to deliver, unlawful delivery and simple possession of heroin/fentanyl, and possession of paraphernalia.

Officers executing a search warrant at Wright's residence at 17 Oak St. in Carbondale found heroin and fentanyl in the same packets that officers obtained during controlled buys with marked currency, according to authorities.

Officers also found a .22-caliber rifle in Wright's residence. He is charged with being a person prohibited from possessing a firearm because of an unspecified prior felony conviction, authorities said.

Wright is held in the Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $75,000 bail.
