Carbondale seeking applicants for council vacancy

Aug. 18—The city is seeking applicants to fill the remainder of former Councilman Joe McDonald Jr.'s two-year term.

Carbondale City Council will accept letters of interest from residents until 4 p.m. Monday for the vacant seat, which expires in December 2023, according to the city. Council will appoint McDonald's replacement Aug. 25 at a special meeting.

Applicants must be at least 21 years old, and they must have lived in Carbondale for the past 12 months.

McDonald tendered his resignation Aug. 5, citing work commitments, City Clerk Michele Bannon said. Council accepted McDonald's letter of resignation last week, Bannon said.

McDonald was first elected to council in 2019 and re-elected last year.

Council members earn $1,200 per year and are eligible for health insurance, Bannon said.

Residents can submit letters to: mbannon@icontech.com or City of Carbondale Attn: Dr. Joseph Marzzacco, council president, 1 N. Main St., Carbondale, PA 18407.
