Cardi B, it's OK to say you live in NJ (though you're not the only one to pretend it's NY)

Cardi B is already acting like a North Jersey native.

The rapper reportedly bought a $5.85 million home in Tenafly — and is saying she lives in New York.

Just like every Jersey person who claims, "I basically live in the city," Cardi took to her Instagram to say that she and her husband, Offset, have "always dreamed of having a crib in NY."

We can't entirely fault her. Cardi B is a New Yorker, through and through. She was born in Washington Heights and raised in the South Bronx, worked at a deli and later a strip club in Tribeca. But her 13,000-square-foot mansion, with nine bedrooms, nine bathrooms, a movie theater, a swimming pool and a tennis court, is in, well, Tenafly.

Cardi isn't the only one to shun New Jersey in favor of its cooler neighbor.

Kulture's party: Cardi B's daughter Kulture's fairytale birthday party comes to life at Englewood venue

The most iconic New York landmark, the Statue of Liberty, is in New Jersey.

The New York Giants' and Jets' home stadium, MetLife, is in East Rutherford.

Ever book a flight out of Newark Airport? It says you're departing from New York/Newark (EWR).

We don't have any hard stats, but we're pretty sure plenty of people have gotten off the train at Newark Penn Station and been surprised to find themselves far from 34th Street.

When you watch the new "West Side Story" film, just know that much of what is masquerading as New York was shot in Paterson.

Our very own Frank Sinatra, a Hoboken boy, was famous for singing a song called "New York, New York."

There's even a town called West New York in New Jersey.

In fact, the only thing more Jersey than buying a home in Tenafly is claiming it's in New York. We see you, Cardi. We've done it ourselves.

But it's time for us to reclaim our dignity.

We know Cardi knows we know how to party. We loved seeing the birthday bash she threw for her daughter Kulture (complete with a petting zoo, a horse and buggy ride and appearances from Disney princesses) at Englewood's Space Events in July.

And she's in star-studded company. Plenty of celebrities have realized the joys of Jersey living.

Tracy Morgan lives in Alpine. Ice-T has a condo in Edgewater. Lauryn Hill reportedly has a house in South Orange. Her fellow Fugees member Wyclef Jean lives in Saddle River. Stephen Colbert owns a home in Montclair. Kevin Jonas has one in Montville.

It's also not uncommon to see Jersey legends like Bruce Springsteen (raised in Freehold), Queen Latifah (born in Newark) and Michael B. Jordan (raised in Newark) out and about in Jersey.

So please, Cardi B and other people of New Jersey, stop saying you live five minutes from New York and start saying you live in the great state of New Jersey. Besides, when has it ever taken only five minutes to get into the city?
