Cardinals announce numbers for draft picks, free agent additions, players making changes

·2 min read

The Arizona Cardinals have made many additions this offseason to their roster between free agency and the draft. The NFL also changed some of their rules for uniform numbers.

As a result, there are a number of new players and new numbers, as well as new numbers for returning players.

The team announced those changes via social media.

The changes and additions are below.

Free agent player numbers

  • WR A.J. Green: 18

  • C Rodney Hudson: 61

  • CB Malcolm Butler: 21

  • RB James Conner: 6

  • K Matt Prater: 5

  • QB Colt McCoy: 12

Conner wore No. 30 for the first four years of his career and is taking advantage of the loosened restrictions about who can wear single-digit numbers. The rest of the players have had these numbers previously with other teams.

Draft picks

  • LB Zaven Collins: 25

  • WR Rondale Moore: 85

  • CB Marco Wilson: 20

  • OLB Victor Dimukeje: 92

  • CB Tay Gowen: 32

  • S James Wiggins: 38

  • C Michal Menet: 72

Moore is bucking the trend of receivers wearing numbers in the teens. Collins is wearing a number traditionally used by defensive backs and running backs in the past. Gowan gets the number previously worn by safety Budda Baker, who has changed to No. 3. Dimukeje gets the number Rashard Lawrence wore last season.

Returning players making changes

  • S Budda Baker: 3

  • RB Chase Edmonds: 2

  • CB Byron Murphy: 7

  • DL Rashard Lawrence: 90

Lawrence wore No. 90 in college. He wore 92 as a rookie, Murphy was No. 33 and Edmonds was No. 29. Listen to the latest from Cards Wire's Jess Root on his podcast, Rise Up, See Red. Subscribe on Apple podcasts or Spotify. Latest show:
