Cardinals cornerback Jeff Gladney, former first-round pick, dead at 25

Jeff Gladney, a former first-round draft pick of the Vikings who signed a two-year contract with the Cardinals in March, was killed in a car crash early Monday morning. He was 25.
Gladney’s agent, Brian Overstreet, confirmed the news to the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram.
“We are asking prayers for the family and privacy at this most difficult time,” Overstreet said.
The Cardinals released this statement following news of Gladney's death.
“We are devastated to learn of Jeff Gladney’s passing. Our hearts go out to his family, friends and all who are mourning this tremendous loss.”
Eagles wide receiver Jalen Reagor, a teammate of Gladney’s at Texas Christian University, posted the news of Gladney’s death on Twitter. Cardinals players Eno Benjamin and Isaiah Simmons also tweeted about Gladney’s passing.

Gladney, 25, was signed by Arizona with the intent of competing for a starting role at cornerback this upcoming season. He was expected to battle second-year pro Marco Wilson for a starting spot opposite or in addition to Byron Murphy Jr.
Gladney was drafted 31st overall by the Vikings in 2020. He started 15 games and finished with 81 tackles, seven for loss, three passes defensed and one forced fumble. He was released by the Vikings in August 2021 after being indicted on domestic violence charges. After sitting out the entire 2021 season, Gladney was acquitted on March 10 of this year by a Texas jury and found not guilty of felony assault.
He signed with the Cardinals six days later.
