Cardinals knocking on door of top 10 of new TD Wire power rankings

The Arizona Cardinals are 2-0 for the second year in a row. With their 34-33 Week 2 win over the Minnesota Vikings, they have moved up in the latest power rankings from Touchdown Wire’s Nick Wojton.

Ranked 14th after their season-opening win over the Tennessee Titans, the Cardinals have moved up three spots to No. 11 overall, just missing the top 10.

Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray can be a cheat code at a lot of the time but he’s got some things to clean up. The Vikings were technically in position to win this game as well, but a win is a win.

Sitting at 2-0, in these rankings, they are still the lowest-ranked team in the NFC West.

The Los Angeles Rams, who are also 2-0, come in at No. 2. The Seattle Seahawks, who are the only team in the division with a loss after the Titans beat them 33-30 in overtime in Week 2, are now eighth after being fourth after they won in Week 1. The San Francisco 49ers moved up one spot to No. 9 after their 17-11 Week 2 over the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Cardinals are obviously trending in the right direction, moving up in the rankings. However, the reality is they should be ranked above both the 49ers and the Seahawks after two weeks. The 49ers had an ugly game in Week 2 and allowed the Detroit Lions to score 33 points in the season opener, while the Seahawks lost at home to a team the Cardinals blew out on the road.

A more accurate and fair depiction of how the Cardinals look so far would be USA TODAY’s power rankings, which have them seventh overall.

As they take on the 0-2 Jacksonville Jaguars this weekend, there isn’t likely anything the Cardinals can do to move up in rankings, considering the level of their competition. However, if the game is more competitive than people think it should be, there is the potential for a drop in next week’s rankings, even if they are 3-0.
