With less than two weeks remaining until the 2021 NFL draft, it is not yet known in what direction the Arizona Cardinals will go with the 16th overall pick. In a new mock draft from NFL Network’s Charles Davis, the Cardinals go with a player who might not play in 2021.

Davis’ mock draft has the Cardinals going with USC offensive lineman Alijah Vera-Tucker.

Vera-Tucker can play inside or at tackle. He’ll provide extra protection for young QB Kyler Murray.

The top three receivers are off the board in Ja’Marr Chase, Jaylen Waddle and DeVonta Smith. So are the two top cornerbacks in Patrick Surtain and Jaycee Horn. That is perhaps the worst-case scenario for Arizona, so then they have to pivot.

Vera-Tucker is not a bad pick. It continues to show the commitment to the offensive line and he gives them position flexibility moving forward. He likely would not play as a rookie but with uncertainty at guard beyond this coming season, having young talent ready to step in is what the Cardinals have been missing on their roster.
