Cardinals land WR with 3rd pick of new mock draft

It is mock draft season and some projections will seem a little odd. This new mock draft by Touchdown Wire’s Doug Farrar is one of them, at least for the Arizona Cardinals.

The Cardinals, who have the third overall pick, do not trade it and also do not take a defensive player.

Instead, in these projections, the Cardinals select TCU wide receiver Quentin Johnston.

Johnston is 6-foot-2 and 208 pounds.

He had his best season last season for the Horned Frogs, catching 60 passes for 1,069 yards and six touchdowns. He averaged nearly 18 yards per reception.

It was his first 1,000-yard season.

This would be a highly surprising pick for a lot of reasons.

Yes, the Cardinals could need a receiver if they end up trading DeAndre Hopkins and especially a receiver with some length.

However, Johnston is not considered by most a top-5 talent in the draft. Some would not say he is even the best receiver in the draft, either.

If the Cardinals don’t trade away the third pick, Alabama pass rusher Will Anderson seems like a no-brainer, even if he isn’t the ideal size for the Cardinals’ new defense.

Anderson falls to No. 8 in this mock draft.

Johnston as the No. 3 pick? Let’s hope not.
