Cardinals meet with Louisville RB Javian Hawkins

It is draft season and NFL teams are preparing for it. The Arizona Cardinals have been evaluating prospects and could address their running back room in the draft, as Kenyan Drake is a free agent as of next month and Chase Edmonds enters the final year of his rookie contract.

According to Justin Melo, the Cardinals are one of many teams to have met with Louisville running back Javian Hawkins.

He met with scouts from the Cardinals and other teams.

Hawkins is listed at 5-foot-9 and 196 pounds, which is comparable to Edmonds’ build at 5-foot-9 and 210 pounds.

He had a huge season in 2019, setting a school record with 1,525 rushing yards and nine touchdowns. He averaged 5.8 yards per attempt. In a shortened season in 2020, he had 822 yards and seven scores in eight games, averaging 6.2 yards per carry.

He also added 16 catches for 127 yards as well in 2020.

He is a big-play threat and can be used in the passing game. He is a slightly smaller version of Edmonds, who might be the lead back this season for the Cardinals.
