Cardinals give RB James Conner fully guaranteed contract worth $1.75 million

The Arizona Cardinals are giving newly signed running back James Conner a fully guaranteed one-year contract. It is not for the league minimum, but it isn’t for much.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Conner gets a fully guaranteed $1.75 million in his contract. His signing bonus is $500,000 he will get a salary of $1.25 million.

The full guarantee all but ensures he will be on the Week 1 roster.

The deal means a couple of things.

One, since it is only a one-year deal and since Chase Edmonds, the expected starting running back, has only one year remaining on his contract, nothing can be completely ruled out in the draft. They could still draft a running back early if they really liked a player. Conner makes less than $2 million and makes $920,000 this season, so there is no major financial commitment.

The fact that his deal is for less than $2 million also means the Cardinals are likely unaffected in the compensatory pick formula for next year. Based on Over the Cap’s projections, Conner would be considered a non-compensatory free agent, so the Cardinals remain with the current projection of three compensatory picks in next year’s draft.

Once again, the Cardinals get a potential steal with Conner’s contract.
