Cardinals, Titans matched as potential trade partners in NFL draft

The Arizona Cardinals could make a trade in the first round of the NFL draft. Some recent mock drafts suggest they are looking to move up for a playmaker. They could also move back to acquire more picks.

If they do make a trade, who could be a potential match?

ESPN’s Bill Barnwell proposed a trade for every NFL team. For the Cardinals, it was moving back.

The proposed deal was matching up with the Tennessee Titans, who have the 22nd overall pick. The Cardinals would get Tennessee’s third-round pick, fifth-round pick and a fifth-rounder in next year’s draft to move down six spots to No. 22.

The Cards have dealt away their third-, fourth- and sixth-round picks, so a trade down makes sense. The Raiders are a bit of a wild card when it comes to draft selections, and teams such as Washington and the Bears and Colts could be looking at offensive tackles, so I wonder if this is where the Titans would consider making their move.

Tennessee needs a right tackle after 2020 first-rounder Isaiah Wilson flamed out in spectacular fashion, and if Alijah Vera-Tucker or Virginia Tech’s Christian Darrisaw are still on the board here, this is where it could make its move.

The move would make sense. The Cardinals probably won’t be able to draft one of their top targets. With the 22nd pick, they could still land one of the more talented cornerbacks, a receiver or even one of the top two running backs. And since they don’t currently have a third-round pick, that would be huge.

It does seem like quite the haul to move back six spots. When they moved back seven spots in 2014, they picked up a third-round pick. That move was from 20 to 27, though.

Even still, if this scenario plays out, it would be fantastic.
