Career fair at Springbrook Middle School teaches students about passions, future careers

ADRIAN — More than 10 businesses and individuals recently shared their working experiences and occupational knowledge with seventh grade students at Springbrook Middle School in Adrian.

The guest speakers spoke to the students during the middle school’s fall career fair, which was held to broaden the student’s horizons and to “ignite their passion for future careers,” a news release from Adrian Public Schools said.

The career fair was coordinated by Julia Ely, Springbrook's guidance counselor, and featured a diverse lineup of professionals who donated their time and expertise to speak and visit with the students.

“The purpose of this career fair was to expose students to a wide range of career opportunities, including those listed on the ‘Hot Jobs’ list, and careers that they may not have considered before,” Ely said in the release. “At Adrian Public Schools, we want to motivate students to set clear objectives for their future after graduation, instilling a sense of purpose and direction in their education.”

The fair welcomed a collection of professionals ranging from those who have obtained a high school diploma to those with advanced doctorate degrees, and even military training. It also gave students an understanding of the diverse paths they could take in the future.

Those who participated in the career fair included: Tim Dixon, Michigan State Police bomb squad Sergeant.; Craig Phillips, Redwood Tree Service; Alyssa McKenzie, 3DPT Physical Therapy; Attorney Dave Lacasse, Stimpson & Associates; Myranda Collins, registered nurse; Marcus Perez, Primetime Chiropractic; Josh Wonders, robotics/engineering instructor at the Lenawee Intermediate School District Tech Center; Cody Oard, machinist at the Lenawee Intermediate School District Tech Center; Donte Howard, Supreme K9 Skool; Chad Fox, Adrian Electric & Generator; Gerod Sturgis, Legacy Barber School; and Kendra Crombez, Christy Bossard and Kris Martinez, Adrian School of Massage.

"Our goal at Springbrook Middle School is to provide our students with every opportunity to explore and discover their passions and potential,” Principal Adam Benschoter said. “This career fair is just one example of our commitment to empowering our students and helping them find their path towards a fulfilling and successful future."
