After a career of firsts as transgender woman, Brooklyn lawyer sets sights on NYC Council

Brooklyn civil rights lawyer Alejandra Caraballo’s career has been full of firsts.

At court and in professional conferences, she has often found herself one of the few transgender women working on litigation or pressing for national change. She recently became the first transgender person on a Brooklyn community board.

Now she has her sights set on the NYC Council, which could make for another first.

But Caraballo, 29, is taking the potential historic ramifications in stride.
