UPDATE: 82-year-old seriously injured after being hit by truck in Shelby County

UPDATE @ 1:43 p.m.:

An 82-year-old man was flown to the hospital after being hit by a pickup truck Tuesday morning.

Shelby County Sheriff’s deputies and medics were dispatched around 7:03 a.m. to the 100 block of E. Main Street in Russia on initial reports of a man struck by a vehicle.

The driver of a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 told deputies that he was going eastbound on E. Main Street and around a slight curve when he saw someone crossing E. Main Street in the marked crosswalk in the westbound lane of travel.

“It wasn’t until the last minute he noticed (the victim) crossing E. Main St. in the eastbound lane of travel and slammed on his breaks approximately 5 feet in front of (the victim),” an incident report stated.

The driver wasn’t about to stop in time and hit the man.

CareFlight was called to the scene and the 82-year-old was flown to Miami Valley Hospital with serious injuries. When deputies checked on his condition later in the morning, they learned he was being moved to the Intensive Care Unit.

The crash remains under investigation.
