Carjacking leads to chase, shots fired at officers

Apr. 5—RANDOLPH COUNTY — A Florida man who carjacked and kidnapped a woman led law enforcement officers on a chase over multiple counties and fired shots at them before being captured.

Shortly before 1:45 p.m. Saturday, a 31-year-old woman was kidnapped at gunpoint shortly before 1:45 p.m. Saturday while sitting in her vehicle on Coleridge Road in Asheboro, according to the Asheboro Police Department.

The man, Manuel Jesus Robles, 32, of Ocala, Florida, drove away at a high speed, with law enforcement officers in pursuit, police said. The chase led through multiple jurisdictions and involved the N.C. State Highway Patrol, High Point Police Department, Davidson County Sheriff's Office and Rowan County Sheriff's Office.

During the pursuit, Robles fired multiple shots at officers, hitting law enforcement vehicles, police said. However, no one was injured.

The pursuit ended with Robles crashing at Interstate 85 and Webb Road in Rowan County. Robles ran away but was arrested without incident a short time later, police said.

The woman was not harmed.

Robles faces multiple charges related to the kidnapping, pursuit and shooting at officers, according to police. Bond was set at $2,755,000 secured.
