Uber driver stabbed several times by passenger during carjacking in downtown Grapevine

A passenger repeatedly stabbed an Uber driver Thursday morning in downtown Grapevine, and then drove off in the vehicle.

A search continued Thursday for the suspect and car.

The Uber driver was expected to survive, Grapevine police said.

“This senseless act of violence is devastating, and will not be tolerated,” according to a statement released by Uber officials on Thursday. “We deactivated the rider and are actively assisting law enforcement with their investigation.”

Grapevine police responded to Dallas Road just east of Main Street shortly before 7 a.m. Thursday.

The driver was dropping off his passenger outside of the Amli Grapevine apartments in the 400 block of Dallas Road when the passenger attacked him.

The suspect stabbed the driver several times before he got in the driver’s seat and drove off.

The driver was spotted by nearby residents, who called 911.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic man, about 5-foot-6, weighing about 180 pounds with black and gray hair. He was last seen wearing a plaid shirt, an orange reflective vest and a white construction hat.

He drove off in a blue 2016 Toyota Camry with Texas license plate NMT-9734.

Grapevine police released a photograph of the suspect as he was sitting in the back of the car before the attack. The photograph was from a nearby business surveillance camera.

Anyone who sees the vehicle or suspect should call 911, and avoid confrontations with the suspect.
