Carjacking outside Prices Corner rehab center leads to police chase into Pennsylvania

A 30-year-old woman is facing multiple charges after carjacking a woman outside a Prices Corner drug and alcohol rehabilitation center, then leading police in a car chase that ended in Pennsylvania with officers there using their vehicles to stop her.

The incident began at about 2:50 p.m. Tuesday when a 66-year-old woman drove onto the parking lot of the NET Centers, Kirkwood Recovery Center, located at 3315 Kirkwood Highway, according to Delaware State Police whose Troops 6 is located next door.

Police: Woman asked to use phone, assaulted driver

The driver was approached by a younger woman who asked to use her phone, said Senior Cpl. Jason Hatchell, a police spokesperson. The younger woman began to assault the driver, according to police, which led to a fight over control of the vehicle.

The younger woman managed to take control and started to drive off with the older woman hanging on to the vehicle.

The 66-year-old was thrown to the ground and sustained several injuries, Hatchell said. She, however, refused medical treatment at the scene.

Investigators were able to locate the stolen vehicle in the city of Wilmington and, with the assistance of Wilmington police, attempted a traffic stop. But Hatchell said the woman fled, leading troopers on a car chase onto I-95 north.

Philadelphia woman arrested in Pennsylvania

As the woman crossed into Pennsylvania, state police there took primary control of the chase.

Pennsylvania State Police used their patrol vehicles to stop the vehicle, Hatchell said, and the woman was taken into custody by Pennsylvania police.

After facing charges there, Hatchell said, the Philadelphia woman will be extradited to Delaware where she faces first-degree robbery and disregarding a police officer signal.
