SCOTLAND COUNTY, N.C. (WBTW) — A South Carolina man who allegedly carjacked someone at gunpoint near the Laurinburg-Maxton Airport on Thursday is facing multiple charges after leading authorities on a chase that wound through parts of three counties.

Bryan Wade Gunter, 47, of Leeville, was taken into custody after the chase ended just inside Columbus County, North Carolina, according to the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office. He is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon; felony larceny of a motor vehicle; felony fleeing and eluding arrest with a motor vehicle; possession of a stolen motor vehicle; and possession of a firearm by a felon.

The incident began when deputies were called to investigate the robbery on Airport Road, the sheriff’s office said. A detective en route to the call saw the stolen vehicle and tried to stop it.

A chase ensued into Robeson County and then into Columbus County as the driver failed to stop, the sheriff’s office said.

Additional charges against Gunter are pending in the other counties, authorities said. He was given a $275,000 secured bond and taken to the Scotland County Detention Center.

The Robeson and Columbus county sheriff’s offices and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol assisted in the incident.
